s an internationally recognised qualification for 14-16 years old school students, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is currrently the second most popular option besides SPM among Malaysian students. It is a high-quality qualification that meets the challenging demands of employers across the world in today's dynamic and globalised environment.

Duration18-24 months
Number of subjectsStudents can take anywhere from 5 to 14 IGCSE subjects. A minimum of 5 core subjects passes are required for entrance to pre-university programmes. For candidates who achieve 7 subject passes across certain groups, ICE (International Certificate of Education) group qualification will be awarded by Cambridge. There are 5 subject groups with different subjects to choose from.

Group I: Languages
Group II: Humanities and Social Sciences
Group III: Sciences
Group IV: Mathematics
Group V: Creative, Technical and Vocational


For ICE accreditation, the subjects selected must include two (different) languages from Group I (i.e. only one of First Language English and English as a Second Language may count towards Cambridge ICE) and one subject from each of Groups II, III, IV and V. The seventh subject can be taken from any of the five subject groups.
